# How to offer a flat/percentage off discount + free gift with the same discount code (Shopify Plus exclusive)

This guide explains how to set up an order-level discount with a Monk Free Gift offer at checkout, allowing customers to receive both a discount and a free gift when they use a specific discount code.

For example, you can create promotions such as:

* **10% off your order + a free gift** with code `GIFT1`
* **$20 off your order + a free gift** with code `GIFT2`

### How this works

Once you have created a free gift offer in Monk using a discount code, Monk automatically creates a matching discount code in your **Shopify Admin → Discounts** section to trigger Monk free gift offer when you apply a code. By default, Shopify creates this as an **Order discount** and you can modify the discount and rules within this code.

### How to set it up?

**Step 2 -** Once your Monk offer is created, Monk automatically creates a matching discount code (e.g., ${color}[#0eb941](GIFT1, GIFT2, GIFT3)) in Shopify, set up as an 'Amount off order' discount.

**Step 3 -** To add a discount amount, go to **Shopify Admin → Discounts**, find the code Monk created (e.g., ${color}[#0eb941](GIFT1, GIFT2, GIFT3)), and click into it.

**Step 4 -** You can now edit the discount values or rules for the Shopify code. For example, change it from $0 to a fixed amount off (e.g., $10) or a percentage off (e.g., 10%). This Shopify discount will now apply at the order level, alongside the free gift. You can refer to the images attached below for your reference.

|| Please ensure that the Product discount combinations setting remains enabled for the Shopify discount so that it can combine with the Monk free gift offer.

### Frequently Asked Questions

###### 1) What happens if a discount code with the same name already exists in Shopify?

**If a discount code with the same name already exists** in your Shopify Admin, Monk will not be able to create a new code automatically and it will instead use the existing code for your Free Gift offer.

If you'd prefer Monk to create a new code, you can:
* **Delete the existing code** from Shopify Admin → Discounts.
* Go back to your Monk offer, disable it, then enable it again.
* Monk will automatically create a new discount code in Shopify.

You can then follow the steps mentioned above to adjust eligibility rules and discount for the offer.
