How to create a duplicate free gift product?

Monk’s free gift feature applies a 100% discount to the gift product(s) and sends them to Shopify when the customer clicks checkout. That works for most stores, but sometimes you’ll want the gift to be a separate product, for example to track gifted units apart from sold ones or to keep your main product’s reporting clean or to avoid discounting or sales conflicts. In those cases, a duplicate product works well. This guide walks you through creating it, syncing its inventory with the main product, and hiding it so customers never come across it.


To keep inventory accurate, set up the duplicate gift product using the Shopify Bundles app. Bundle products draw stock directly from the product they’re built on, so every gifted unit is deducted from your main product’s inventory. This prevents overselling and keeps your inventory or warehouse management integrations working as usual.


In order to help you better understand the document, examples from our internal demo store have been outlined throughout.


  1. Create a bundle for the gift product




  • Once installed, open the Shopify Bundles app from your Shopify admin (Apps > Shopify Bundles).
  • Click on 'Create bundle'



  • Give the bundle product a name and add the gift product(s). You can add one or multiple products to offer as gifts under the same bundle


  • Once you’ve added the product and given the bundle a name, click Save and continue.


  1. Unlisted Status


Ensure that this copy product is in the 'Online Store' sales channel and is in the 'Unlisted' status.



Marking the product as 'Unlisted' means-


  • The product won’t appear anywhere publicly on your online store — not in collections, search results, or navigation.
  • The product still exists in your admin and can be accessed on the website through a direct link (URL).


Customers can purchase it only if they have the direct product link, but they won’t find it by browsing your store. Hence it is important to hide the add to cart/buy buttons of the duplicate product to ensure no one is able to add it to their cart directly and this duplicate product is used exclusively for Monk offers.

  1. Sync products


Monk does an automatic sync of the store's products and data every 4 hours, but to ensure that this new copy product is reflected immediately inside the app you will have to do a manual sync by clicking on 'Sync Now' button at the top of the 'Manage Offers' tab.



Wait a few seconds for the 'Sync Complete' pop up message to ensure that the products are synced.



  1. Edit offer settings


Go to your Free Gift offer and on Step 1 of the setup:


  • Add the bundle gift product priced at 0, under 'Products'



  • Under 'Advance Configuration' ensure that the option to Auto Remove is checked : This setting will automatically remove the free gift product from cart, when the eligibility rules for this offer are not fulfilled. This setting will also restrict the buyers from purchasing the gift product and adding the extra quantity of the gift product to cart. Please refer this doc to know more about this setting.
  • Click on Save to enable the offer to display on the website.
